Fall Sports in Fountain Valley

Volleyball

The Autumn season in Fountain Valley means the resurgence of team sports long dormant.  College and high school kids are gearing up for football and volleyball. Sure, you’re going to see the Fountain Valley Barons play prep football.  That’ll be great cheering on your kid.  What about the rest of us who long for competition? Well the good people of the Action Sports Industries (ASI) and Next Level Athletic Sports (NLA Sports) have brought back the fun of sports for the rest of us!  Are you looking for a healthy outlet for your competitive energies?  Are you trying to get back in shape? Are you just looking for a place to socialize with like minded people?  Finally, we can participate in games like kickball, volleyball and bowling with other competitive, health conscious folks! Come on out and have some fun!  Sometimes they have events at the Fountain Valley Recreation Center at Mile Square Park, in Garden Grove, in Lake Forest, or at 300 Bowl in Anaheim.  Their scheduleshows times and fees.  The season starts this week!

That’s so Ramen

The Ramen Challenge

Are you craving some yummy ramen right now?  “The Ramen Challenge” is a local food event right here in Fountain Valley.  You’ll be able to dine on the trendy dish of Ramen amongst other locals!  Come out to Shin-Sen-Gumi of Brookhurst on Friday, November 25, 2011.  Yes, so if you are trying to escape the endless family drama on Thanksgiving, then come on out.  If you are tired of Turkey (..and you’ll probably be eating leftover turkey for a while…), then come on out to Shin Sen Gumi.   Bring $10.00 for the event and be there at 11:30 am.  It looks like lunch is taken care of that day!

So what is the challenge, right?  Alright, since having a bowl of ramen isn’t enough for you, you get a bowl of Famous Shin Sen Gumi Ramen for just $10, (…wait for it…) and *UNLIMITED* extra noodles!  If any guy can finish 6 bowls of noodles in 45 minutes, then they get their noodles for FREEEEEEEEEE!  Females get it easier. They only have to finish 4 bowls of noodles.  Then their noodles will be free.  The best part is that the person who eats the most noodles will get a $50 gifts certificate!

Fountain Valley’s 5th Annual Fall Festival

Fountain Valley’s Annual Fall Festival event is fast approaching.  Dubbed “Taste of the Holy Spirit”, the Fall Festival is in its 5th year and promises to be a lot of fun.  The Fall festival is beginning this Friday the 16th and will continue until Sunday the 18th.  The parking lot for the Holy Spirit Church will be overtaken by the fun and games!  There will be rides, games and FOOD, Glorious Food!  This is a free event to enter.  The only thing you pay for would be food and rides.  Yes, you can buy presale tickets for a discount on riding the kiddie rides.  There will be raffles for cash prizes for a ton of dinero.  At last year’s Fall Festival, Elvis graced the stage with his presence.  He may be held up in Vegas this weekend so we await this years stellar entertainment.  There is a “Prettiest Pooch ” contest so I hope you preregistered Fido for his beauty show debut!  There’s going to be so much going on, but MY favorite part will be the food!  Last year I devoured so many egg rolls that I think the volunteers at the Vietnamese food booth will be scared of me. (Speaking of volunteers, we still need some more volunteers.  Let us know if you are free Sunday!)  There were other yummy foods and cuisines that I would definitely recommend as well!  Try the Filipino food!  Go visit the Boy Scouts and the Knights of Columbus booths too.

Come out to this local event in Fountain Valley!

Holy Spirit Church will be overtaken by the fun and games!  Parking will be at Masuda Elementary School. Here is a map for your parking convenience.  Get there early because it will be fairly packed.

I have seen the planning committee busily working and I know the volunteers are going to be doing quite a lot. Thank you.  Thanks to all of you this Fall Festival will be a success!  Ladies and gentlemen of Orange County, if you happen to have a few hours extra on Sunday, please let us know.  Donate some time to have this community building event to go smoothly    I think the face painting booth and some other services need some volunteers.  Sign up and lend a hand!  You can help make some kid’s face light up…or at least paint it a bright orange hue. Come out to the Fall Festival in Fountain Valley.  Bring the family and have a good time!

Doing What You Can…Charity Fundraiser

What do you say to the person who is held down and exploited?  What do you do when your neighbor is oppressed?  What do you say when your brother or sister is voiceless?

Hello, good people of Fountain Valley.  Here is your fair warning.  If you shy away from politics or if you stay away from controversial topics, please change the channel.  Close this window.  Don’t read this post.  Come back later.  My feelings will not be hurt.

I may lose some of my audience, but that is ok.  This issue is important to me and I need to talk about this.  Today, I will be the voice for people who have no voice.  I am talking about Human Trafficking.  Every year thousands of men, women and children are brought into the US against their will for sexual servitude and for forced labor.  These are school age children and adults.  Yes, this happens in every state of the Union.  This is the best country in the world to live, yet even here freedom is stolen from people continually.  This hits extremely close to home in Southern California as well.  http://articles.ocregister.com/2010-02-24/news/24632081_1_human-trafficking-trafficking-victims-combat-trafficking

This rips up my heart because I enjoy a relatively easy life while my brothers and sisters are being bought, sold, and forced into unspeakable and degrading living conditions.  I donate time and money…but who will tell their story?  Who will advocate those without hope?

Are my words sufficient? No, I cannot begin to understand and convey what they have to go through.  No, I would be a fool to think that I alone can stop this machine that institutionalizes the dehumanization of my neighbors.  However, I would be guilty if I did not try to do something.  The problem is huge, ladies and gentlemen, and  something must be done. I pray that you will help me do what needs to be done.  I challenge you to do what you can to help me right this wrong.

I hope that the good people of Orange County will find it in their hearts to reach out to the less fortunate.  Here are a few things.  If you can do only one thing, then please read about the issue.  Please learn about the plight of people forced into slave labor.  Become educated on the issue so you can make an informed decision on what  you can do.  Don’t turn a blind eye.  Then, then please use your time telling friends, neighbors and elected officials about the issue. Try coming up with a solution that will in some way help stop human trafficking from occurring.  If you can only offer a little time, then please try volunteering, try writing a letter, or try attending fundraisers.  Whatever you can do to help will be appreciated.  Think outside the box as well.  You might have a talent in music and singing.  Write a song and post it on Youtube.  You may be able to reach more people that way. If you are too busy and/or can only send money, that’s fine.  Don’t send any money to me.  Research an organization that will use your donations to the cause and use it wisely to end human trafficking.

…And if all you can do is say a prayer, then please do that too.  Please, do anything to help.
