Upcoming Fun in Fountain Valley!

Upcoming Fun in Fountain Valley!

It’s the springtime again and the world has come alive again!  The birds are chirping and the sun is shining just a little bit brighter. As we all come out of hibernation, it may take a while for us to get acclimated to the world.  However, the world keeps on turning.  So bring on the new and fun events in Fountain Valley and the surrounding area.

There was the 3rd annual Monarch Butterfly Day at Mile Square Park a few days ago. We already mentioned the Rosy Mixer that starts tonight and the Anytime Fitness 5K Run/Walk this weekend.  What else is going on?  This Friday, the Tijuana Dogs are performing over at Silky Sullivan’s on Slater.  (Don’t get too drunk.  The police station is right across the street.)

All these local events are fine and good, but there is something else.  There is one thing that has been looming over my head for a while.  To let you all know a little secret. This Tuesday is Valentine’s Day, so this weekend will be a stressful one for many a man!  I don’t really understand why guys have to buy flowers and chocolates.  Why do we have to run around trying to do romantic things for the ladies.  Ah, I know.  It’s because if we don’t, we’ll never EVER hear the end of it.  Bottom line: get crackin’ fellas!  We have to make Valentine’s Day a success.  There is a sale at Fresh and Easy for 2 dozen roses for $20.  Flowers like tulips at Costco for $9.  Costco roses are $16.  If you need them delivered, by all means get on that right now.  FTD delivers.  I personally like 1-800-Flowers/Proflowers.  They have a great delivery service.  On a budget? Need discount codes/coupons?  Email or message me.  I will send what I have/what I can find.

So you will have flowers taken care of.  Now what else? What about dinner?  There is a very, VERY pricey option of a gondola cruise.  The nearest place to get that would be in Newport.  I had called them and left a message.  I have not heard back from them.  I guess it’s a popular option.  Nick’s Pizza d’Oro is on Slater and Ward.  I have heard good things about this Fountain Valley Restaurant from my sister.  Try their pizza or pasta!  If you are trying to save cash, make your lady a nice dinner!

Why am I telling you where to go to make this Vday more flowery?  I know what all you guys have to go through.   I want to help out my fellow man! We got to stick together and help each other out, guys!  So, do you have any cool ideas?  Share them! Need some more ideas?  Let me know. I have a few aces up my sleeve and can email you.   Surprise your lady and you will have a Fun and Happy Valentine’s Weekend.

Father’s Day Weekend

Please forgive me. Okay, we’re halfway through Father’s Day weekend and I’ve not stayed in Fountain Valley long enough to give my father a happy Him Day hug. I’m a terrible, terrible son!  (But I had lots of food & lots of fun!)
I went to Faraway Lands, if you’re wondering. I ate tons of food like hot pot and cha ca!  Yummy! Then I had my fill of Margarita & Vino! Oh dear!
Well, it’s not REALLY Father’s Day til tomorrow and I will have dinner w my pops tonight. Oh I guess it’s not so bad,  right?  Still bad? Oy vay!
Ok, Fountain Valley, here are some nice last minute things to do for Dad’s Day. 1. BBQ. Most men love a good BBQ. (& fire too if you’re cooking it yourself)   Go to Stater Bros on Euclid & Warner and get some steaks. Grill ’em up good! 2. Power tools. Guys like power & these tools help him get his to do list in check.  Sears, dude, seriously. 3. Dinner.  Similar to #1. He gets to eat, which is good. He also doesn’t have to clean up. My fave Fountain Valley spots: Stuart Anderson’s (for steak), Silky’s (for papas n beer), Carrows (for pie). 4. Golf. This can be a gamble. Not every guy likes golf or is good at golf. However, I think that we can say treat him to his favorite hobby. Mile Square Park golf course entrances are conveniently located on both sides of the park. Ward & Edinger and then Ward & Warner. 5.  Speaking of gambling, take him to Vegas! Ok this is more for you than him, but it’s Vegas! Need I say more!?  (Just kidding, but I do think my future FIL wanted to plan a quick trip to Vegas for the familia…to bad the MIL & gf weren’t looking forward to going! Sorry FIL)
At any rate, no matter who your father is and what his interests are, be sure to do one thing. Let him know you love and care for him. He’s getting old and he might’ve forgotten or he just may like hearing it. Show your pops you love him on Father’s Day, Fountain Valley!…and Stay classy! Happy Father’s Day!

St. Paddy’s Day in Fountain Valley

St. Paddy’s Day in Fountain Valley

Never iron a four-leaf clover, because you don’t want to press your luck. (Thanks, Lauren!  I love that joke!) I love all holidays and St. Patrick’s Day is just an excuse to pinch people and have some Guinness! It’s the one holiday right smack dab in the middle of Lent that you can party it up!

So come on out to Silky Sullivan’s in Fountain Valley and have some corned beef. I don’t know if they have soda bread, but they do have a full bar, great drinks and a wonderful wait staff! So go on Facebook and click that you are attending the event.  Happy Saint Patrick’s Day, Fountain Valley!  Stay safe and get a DD or get a Taxi.

-Additionally, one can head over to the good ol’ Blarney Stone! I had forgotten about that. It’s located at 11761 Edinger Avenue, Fountain Valley, CA 92708.  Call them at (714) 775-9987.  May the Luck o’ the Irish be with you!

Mardi Gras in Fountain Valley

Mardi Gras in Fountain Valley!

Yes! Mardi Gras is my 25th favorite holiday of the year! You can totally go live it up one last time before Lent. For all that don’t know what Lent is, it’s the holy season building up to Easter. You sacrifice and deny yourself with fasting and prayer. Yes, people try to be holy.  I really have a tough time of it, so that’s why I ❤ Mardi Gras!

Mardi Gras, or Fat Tuesday, refers to fattening up before Lent. It makes it easier to go without your favorite meal when you just enjoyed it recently.  So how do we celebrate Mardi Gras?  Across the world people are partying and parading through the streets drinking, getting beads and making merry. We’re more civilized here in Fountain Valley. There’ll be no parades in Orange County, however you can have a great time on a budget!

There have been a lot of Mardi Gras themed club events in the area around Fountain Valley.  I’ve always thought clubs were too expensive and I really dislike having to pay a cover charge.  This is what we can do.  Some new friends of mine invented the “Fountain Crawl”. It’s a pub crawl in your dear ol’ hometown of Fountain Valley!

You think that there’s only one bar in Fountain Valley? Open your eyes and think again! There’s a bar in Fountain Bowl. They also serve beer and serve mixed drinks in the restaurants around Fountain Valley. Start off at Marie’s (Marie Callendar’s). Grab a mudslide and a pie. Next hit up Islands for a margarita or a mojito. You might want to eat a burger too if you’re abstaining from meat in Lent.  Then head over to Claim Jumper’s to get another mudslide. Head over to Red Claw to get a pitcher of beer and a pound of Crawfish! Who needs New Orleans when you can have decent cajun style seafood right in Fountain Valley? Take that New Orleans! Neither you nor the airlines are taking MY money on Mardi Gras!

Alrighty, at this point of the “Fountain Crawl” you’ve hit up quite a few places. No night of drinking in Fountain Valley would be complete without capping it off with…you guessed it! Silky Sullivan’s!  They’ll have the place festive late into the night.  You can always count on Silky’s for that.

Well, enjoy your Mardi Gras! Enjoy your Mardi Gras responsibly! And stay classy, Fountain Valley!
