Summerfest 2012 is Upon Us

Are you ready for some fantastic food and fun? Gear up for games and good times!   There’s going to be rides and a riot of a good time.  Fountain Valley’s Summerfest 2012 is upon us!  Last year at Summerfest 2011, the Gravitron and the Zipper made it exciting for the big kids.  The alligator ride and the big yellow slide was fun for the young ones.  For the guys trying to win stuffed animals for their dates…well, we had tons of game booths!

This year promises to be just as fun.  Biking around Mile Square Park, I saw them setting up all sorts of rides, like the Umbrella ride.  Everything is almost ready! Coincidentally tomorrow is your last day for presale wristbands for $15 saving you $7!

“Valid June 8, June 9, or June 10 at Fountain Valley Summerfest. Go you Recreation Center anytime between now and 5pm on June 7 to benefit from these savings while supplies last. Cost is $15 with this deal or $22 at the event. CASH ONLY!”

There will also be free music by live bands on both Friday and Saturday.  come out and listen to Meaning in Masterpiece or Tremor.  Games, rides, music…There’s something for everyone here at Fountain Valley’s Summerfest!

Hope to see you there!

Disabled Dance at Recreation Center and Sports Park

Hello all you wonderful Fountain Valley residents,

Music Notes

Come dance to the music!

There’s a fun little event this next weekend for a group very special to me.  That event will be the annual Disabled Dance at Fountain Valley’s Recreation Center and Sports Park by Mile Square Park at 16400 Brookhurst Street, Fountain Valley.   Come out on October 28, 2011 at 7:00 PM for a fun night of dancing until 9:00 PM. Gather together your friends for a special dance for our disabled adults.  A night of fun for only $1 admission.  The entrance by the tennis courts will be the most optimal entrance.  Let’s all thank the Advisory Committee for the Disabled and sponsored by the Fountain Valley Community  Foundation for organizing and presenting this fun event in Fountain Valley.  The Recreation and Community Services has a longstanding commitment to promoting health and wellness.  Call Nora Webb, Community Services Supervisor, at 714-593-4447 for more information.

Music Center in Fountain Valley

Hello all!  Fountain Valley has a really interesting Music Event coming up this Saturday!  If anyone is free on Satuday night at 8 pm there will be a nice music event with traditional and Contemporary Vietnamese Music right here in Fountain Valley.  It will be called, “Hanh Trinh Ve Dat Me”.  Catch the Ngan Khoi Chorus performing there!  There are some “dreamy” songs like Bai Ca Sao, which my friends call a Vietnamese equivalent of the Savage Garden song “I Knew I Loved You“.  That song is by far my favorite that will be performed that night!  This music event will be held in the Saigon Performing Arts Center right next to Mile Square Park near Albersons at Brookhurst and Edinger.  You’ll catch me there!  Tickets start at $30

Annual Fall Festival in Fountain Valley

The 5th Annual Fall Festival in Fountain Valley is soon to arrive.

So Summer is more than half over and you’re dreading the Fall and the start of school. Well, it won’t be all that bad. I remember dreading the start of school.  Yes, people will pick on you in the hallways and take your lunch money. There is, however, one ray of hope for the upcoming Autumn season. One of the Biggest Annual Fall Festivals in Fountain Valley is the Taste of the Holy Spirit Festival at Holy Spirit Church on Ward Street. It’s Free to go! Food is the only thing I pay for.  I am too much of a wimp to go on the carnival rides!

As you may recall, last year’s festival was quite a blast! Last year, I saw my friend that I had not seen since high school!  It is great how the community comes together here!  I also really enjoyed the food!  The Vietnamese and Filipino food booths were especially good.  Just thinking about it is making me crave egg rolls!

This year’s Taste of Holy Spirit Fall Festival is September 16th through the 18th. Come out to enjoy food, fun, and good times with friends at the 5th Annual Fall Festival in Fountain Valley.  You’ll hear some music and have a few laughs.  Plus, you’re bound to see some people you know and/or make some new friends. Now unlike at school, these friends won’t beat you up and take your lunch money…at least not at the festival. They’ll also give you food in exchange for your lunch money.  If you have time, hopefully you can volunteer as well.  Sign up and give back to the community as you have a little fun!

Last Concert of the Summer at Mile Square Park

This will be the Last Concert of the Summer at Mile Square Park in Fountain Valley. As a reminder, this event is FREE!

Maybe you have heard the Atari’s cover song of the “Boys of Summer”. If you’re old enough, you may remember the “original” song in the 80’s. (Yes there was a DJ Sammy version, but that doesn’t count!) Well, the point is that the summer is going, going and soon will be gone! Enjoy it while it lasts, boys and girls!

The last installment of Fountain Valley’s Concerts in the Park will feature Mark Wood and the Parrot Head Band. It’s a Jimmy Buffett tribute band. I’m looking forward to their rendition of Margaritaville! That’s one of my favorite songs and it evokes an idyllic image of sipping on margaritas while on a hammock in the shade from the sun! Ahh! Now I need to go on a vacation!

This concert is your last chance to sit in Mile Square Park with your neighbors for free music at this community (and corporate) sponsored event. Come on out! I hope to see you there!

Oh and by the way…it starts at 5pm on Thursday the 28th! Come on out to the Fountain Valley Sports Park at 16400 Brookhurst, Fountain Valley 92708!
